If you’re on one of our Home FibreStarter 50 or Home Unlimited Fibre 300 plans, your internet just got faster.

This change is part of the Big Fibre Boost, a national upgrade led by Chorus and other local fibre companies to improve internet speeds for Kiwis across the country.

These days, most Kiwi households are doing more online than ever. In fact, the average New Zealand household now uses over 644GB of broadband data each month according to Chorus, a stark contrast to a decade ago when most households were under 50GB a month. And that usage keeps growing.

This speed upgrade is to help NZ homes keep up with how we all use the internet now, whether that’s streaming, working, gaming, or everything at once. It’s designed to make sure your broadband connection keeps pace with your household’s growing needs — now and into the future.

What’s Changed?

If you’re on:

  • Home FibreStarter 50 (50/10 Mbps) → You’re now on 100/20 Mbps 
  • Home Fibre 300 (300/100 Mbps) → You’re now on 500/100 Mbps 

This upgrade happened automatically at the end of June. You don’t need to do anything and your monthly price hasn’t changed.

Why has my fibre speed increased?

NZ Local Fibre Companies (LFCs), like Chorus, have given speed upgrades to the above-mentioned fibre plans to help keep up with growing internet use in New Zealand households.

Do I need to do anything?

No, the speed upgrade happened automatically. If you’re eligible, your speeds will have already increased.

Why didn’t I get the upgrade?

The speed boost only applies to selected fibre plans; Fibre Starter 50 and Fibre 300, and with Local Fibre Companies, other than Network Tasman. If you’re on a different plan, or using a different technology like VDSL/ADSL, this upgrade won’t apply. Not sure what plan you’re on? Check your latest Voyager bill or contact us and we’ll confirm it for you.

I’m in the Nelson or Richmond area, will I get the upgrade?

Network Tasman is a Local Fibre Company serving locations in the Nelson and Richmond area. They have not yet made a decision on whether they will also join the Big Fibre Boost. If they do decide to join, we will apply the upgrade automatically to your Home Fibre 300 plan.
