Mayor Len Brown cuts ribbon on Voyager Internet’s new network node.

Tuesday, 10th December 2013, 11am - Auckland, NZ.

Telecommunications Company Voyager has today commenced operation of their new high-speed core network node at the Mayoral Drive telephone exchange. The opening was presided over by Auckland Mayor Len Brown, who graciously accepted Voyager’s invitation to tour the facility.

Mayoral Drive is New Zealand’s largest telephone exchange, and is an important network location from which Internet and phone services are provided to the rest of New Zealand.

The commencement of operations at Mayoral Drive is a significant milestone for Voyager. With 18 months of planning and a $500,000 investment in networking hardware, the new facility replaces Voyager’s old core network node at 220 Queen St, and means that Voyager’s core network has been upgraded from 10Gbps to 40Gbps (40,000 Megabits per second).

Voyager can now provide ultra-high speed 10Gbit Ethernet services directly to end users, and is competing directly with other Fibre providers such as Vector, Citylink, FX Networks, Vodafone and Telecom. Voyager has now halved the cost of 1Gbit ethernet services in the CBD to just $495/mth, the most affordable offering of any high-speed fibre provider.

Voyager CEO Seeby Woodhouse says: “The opening of the Mayoral Drive facility is an exciting time for Voyager. After securing several high-profile customers such as Pandora Internet Radio, and a number of wholesale ISPs over the last year, Voyager is now ready and able to challenge the larger providers in terms of value for money, but more importantly in customer service”

Voyager has also recently launched their “Cloud Voice” platform, which allows businesses to manage their telephone system from a web-browser, whilst saving costs, and eliminating the need for on-site PABX hardware.

Mayor Len Brown said, “It’s great to see innovative New Zealand companies like Voyager investing locally in infrastructure and helping to improve the uptake of high speed broadband services. Anyone that gets Auckland moving faster on the Information Superhighway gets a big thumbs up from me”

Ends.
